Two museums invite you free of charge - experience history on your doorstep
On Friday, March 27, 2026, the Government Bunker Documentation Site and the Roemervilla Museum will open their doors together for the Heimattag in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler.
From 10:00 to 16:00 (last guided tour), all citizens of the city are invited to visit the two museums free of charge and discover history from two completely different eras - from antiquity to the Cold War.
Admission is free for all citizens residing in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler (zip code 53474); an identity card serves as proof. Pre-registration is not required.
Guided tours of the government bunker documentation site will be offered throughout the day. These start every hour, or every half hour if there is a large crowd, so that as many visitors as possible can take part. If you would like to visit the bunker, simply join the next available guided tour on site.
In the Roemervilla, both free visits and participation in flexible guided tours are possible. Depending on the number of visitors, different formats take place in parallel, including guided tours suitable for children and tours with a focus on archaeology.
Families can decide spontaneously whether they want to explore the excavation site on their own or join a guided tour.
The day is accompanied by little extras: In the government bunker, the bistro sells fresh Dutch fries, drinks and ice cream, while in the Roemervilla, Roman lemonade and hands-on activities for children create a lively approach to antiquity.
Together, the government bunker and Roemervilla, in collaboration with the town council, show the many ways in which history can be experienced in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler: experiencing home together - discovering history, sharing memories, shaping the future.
